After you purchase the land its best to have it surveyed. This should be done prior to staking out the layout of the house. Getting your new home placement on the lot exactly how you want it to set is of significant importance in the early of building. So get some stake markers and stake out your home layout according to your house plans and make sure your new home is on your lot according to the county code and laws. At this point you want to consult your custom home builder to go over the dimensions you have staked out so when it comes time to lay the footings out and set the foundation for grade it meets the specs of the house plans.
If everything is a cording to the plans it’s time to clear the lot and excavate the foundation. You want your excavator to clear an area of at least ten to fifteen foot around the construction area. This is for trucks to get in and out and dropping material off. After the hole is dug the foundation contractor will come in and lay out the footings. After the cement footing are framed and poured the basement walls will most likely be set and poured the following day. So to dig your foundation and to have your poured walls ready for framing might be three days. Note that some custom home builders will start building the floor of the house before it is backfilled. If you wait to build till the basement is backfilled you may wait a whole week before the concrete basement is cure up enough to backfill.
